Head of Department Discipline Sparrow Foundation School 

Purpose

 

The Head of Department of Discipline is a crucial role within a school, responsible for overseeing, implementing and managing disciplinary procedures, promoting positive behavior, and fostering a safe and respectful learning environment. This position requires a strong understanding of student behavior, effective communication skills, and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.

The applicant should have the following skills

  • Cultivates a good rapport with parents and learners and can articulate the school’s mission and vision

The Core responsibilities of the HOD Discipline are as follows:

  • Develop, review, refine and implement standard operating procedures for discipline at the school in line with GDE and school principles
  • Handle the full student disciplinary process including , hearings, suspensions, warnings, etc
  • Communicate standard operating procedures to staff, students and parents
  • Train all staff and teachers in relevant support required in discipline process
  • Liaise with and instruct staff regarding discipline procedures
  • Provide feedback on discipline issues weekly to principal and at SMT meeting
  • Flag, communicate and discuss patterns of behaviours in students with School Management Team
  • Devise, implement and record remediation plans for learners with teachers as required with stakeholders
  • Provide feedback remediation plans in consultation with the SBST
  • Host teacher meetings as required
  • Hold class visits relating to discipline as required
  • Mentor teachers on discipline matters 
  • Participate in orientation/ induction of new teachers on student disciplinary matters
  • Identify termly disciplinary training needs
  • Control, manage and feedback to learners on behaviour modification goals reached and not yet reached. Write termly updates on these learners in blue profile books
  • Report and give feedback to parents on ongoing discipline issues with their child
  • Create, manage and maintain the Discipline Google Drive Folder (uploading relevant Letters/Forms (suspension letters, tracking sheets etc.) as necessary
